When it’s hot outside there’s not much that’s better than a glass of fresh cold lemonade. My family spent many summers putting up hay for our horses on the hottest days in July and we always had lemonade on hand to help keep us moving. And when I was pregnant with my oldest, my biggest craving was fresh lemonade. This frozen blueberry lemonade is so refreshing and makes me reminisce of hot summer days, trips to the county fair and freshly picked seasonal blueberries.
Fresh blueberries really make a difference in this recipe, but you can absolutely use store bought. If you have fresh blueberries, the best way to freeze them is to lay them out flat and place them in the freezer. This will help them to not freeze into a large clump. Once they are hard when squeezed you can transfer to a ziplock bag and keep in the freezer for easy use.
Not only is this simple to make, but the ingredients are simple as well. You will use blueberries, lemon juice and sugar. I find store bought blueberries to be more tart and tasteless compared to freshly picked berries, so this recipe reflects using store bought. If your berries are sweeter, or you like your lemonade more on the tart side, you can absolutely cut the sugar in half. Once blended we enjoy ours in a sugar rimmed glass with fresh lime slices for garnish.
- 1 pound of frozen blueberries
- 2 cups of lemon juice
- 1 cup of sugar
- Lime for garnish
- Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.
- Divide between 3-4 glasses and serve immediately.
